Loved by many, hated by others, our dear summer is getting ready to leave. ☀️ This year, it brought a mix of challenges and opportunities for us, gardeners in Switzerland 🇨🇭 

From scorching heatwaves 🥵 to sudden downpours ⛈️, the weather tested our patience and that of our plants. But as we move towards the end of summer, the weather is starting to soften, offering a warm and sunny finale, perfect for last plantings.

September is the time to savour the fruits of your labour while preparing for the cooler days ahead—there’s still plenty to plant and enjoy in your garden! 🌱

GROWING FOOD

Let's get ready for September! Here is a list of foods that can generally be planted (or harvest) in Switzerland 🇨🇭 in September:

Vegetables 🥬

  • Spinach - Thrives in cool weather, perfect for fall planting.

  • Lettuce - Quick-growing; plant early September for a fall harvest.

  • Carrot - Can be sown early September; harvest before frost.

  • Radish - Fast-growing, ready in 4 weeks, ideal for September.

  • Onion - Plant sets for overwintering; harvest next summer.
